jitteringbug | (no subject)

I've been volunteering at the FIDM museum for the past couple months (I'm unemployed and trying to "keep my hand in", but that's another post). I went yesterday and the office was all a tizzy because they had locked down a deal with a company to get their next big historical show to travel to other venues. I love hearing the behind-the-scenes stuff - if only it could lead to a job prospect for me sooner than later!

Anyway, here's the announcement, which is pretty minimal but still cool. Outdoor Girls won't open in LA until 2020 though, so don't get *too* excited!

The curator is buying stuff left and right for it which is fun, because new packages arrive daily and sometime I help catalog and photograph them. I got to handle a c.1810 women's riding crop yesterday, no biggie. *internal screams of joy*

Yesterday they also started planning the layout for the next Hollywood Costume exhibition. They're getting some Wonder Woman pieces (yay) but someone kept referring to her daywear as 1920s. (I was in the other room filing and eavesdropping, so I don't know who.) Umm, the WHOLE PREMISE of the movie was that it took place during WWI. Maybe she hadn't seen the movie?

If it's still out next week, I'll ask about pictures. The shape resembles this one https://collections.tepapa.govt.nz/object/170889, with the little knob at the top and then straight down, but it's MUCH more diminutive than the one in this photo. Size-wise, it resembles this http://candicehern.com/regencyworld/riding-habits-overview/riding_habit2a/ It's all black-brown, and the switch part (below the handle) is all woven and not floppy at all. It looks a LOT like the one in that fashion plate, except of course you can't actually see any details from that.

Wouldn't that be nice? I have Very Complicated Feelings about working for free when I used to get paid to do the exact same work. But EVERYONE I've spoken to says that interning/volunteering/etc. is, like, the ONLY way to get in at an institution. So I'm trying.
